Using the Dialog Editor tools

This section documents the tools and controls that can be created on dialogs. In this overview of each tool and control, only some of the key properties will be described. For properties that are more general and are common to many types of control (Color, Height, Width, etc.,) see the complete alphabetic list of Properties of Dialog Controls.

See also the section on Making references to properties on how to set dialog properties dynamically at run time, and User Interface Design FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section.

Using Drag & Drop onto Dialogs

You can drag objects from the Knowledge Explorer (e.g. attributes and variables) and drop them onto a dialog to easily create default controls. Alternatively, you can use the tools below for more flexibility.

TIP: Hold down the CTRL key as you drag and drop, if you don't want a default label to be created along with the default control.

Shortcut for Radio buttons, Check Boxes and Hot Spots

You can use the right mouse-click menu on a List Box or Drop-down Combo Box control and select Convert menus to change the whole list to a set of Check Boxes, Hot Spots or Radio buttons. However, the last two of these would not be available for a multi-select list.

For example, this means that with only a couple of mouse-clicks you can drag and drop a List type attribute onto a dialog, then use Convert to Check Boxes to create a complete set of aligned check boxes with each value correctly set and labelled.
